Treatment Planning for Clients with ADHD

Most practitioners find it challenging to work with neurodiversity using the traditional treatment planning framework. We will be exploring the neurodivergent elements that must be included in the treatment plan to work with clients with ADHD traits or diagnosis.

Course Information

Course content

Most practitioners find it challenging to work within the original framework with ADHD clients. How can we account for the client’s neurodiversity? Do we need to alter the way we work? How can we address the difficulties rooted in neurodivergence? Do we need to completely change how we work?

We can learn to weave psychology with neurodivergence. We can build new elements in our original modality while still using familiar methods. We can address the extra elements that highly impact neurodivergent individuals and systematically manage them.

The workshop aims to share the application of the ADHD Treatment Pyramid:

  • Sensory regulation

  • Organisational issues

  • Time management issues

  • Self-esteem related questions

  • Procrastination - motivation

  • Emotional regulation

  • Creating a routine

  • Masking and shame

We will be examining how we can account for these different factors within our treatment planning.

What extra information do we look for while working with the clients with ADHD?

How can we separate the psychological and neurodivergent elements?

How we move between the different layers depends on the clients’ presentation?

 

In addition, we will apply our knowledge with case examples and our own experiences in treatment planning. 

Learning Outcomes

The key outcomes from the workshop are:

  • Understanding the different neurodivergent elements that must be included in the treatment plan

  • Be able to take away and create your own unique idea of how you want to work with neurodivergent clients.

About the trainer

Nea Clark is a PTSTA (Provisional Teaching and Supervising Transactional Analyst) in the field of psychotherapy. She has an  MSc  in TA psychotherapy.

 

She is based in Leeds, West Yorkshire, is a psychotherapist and supervisor in private practice. Nea leads supervision and therapy groups and presents on a range of topics.
